Workshops organised by CoralWatch
CoralWatch workshops are designed to show marine educators, managers and community groups how they can use a simple coral bleaching monitoring technique. Attendees learn how to use the coral health chart and collect valuable scientific data while increasing awareness about coral reefs and environmental issues.
Activities:
1. Academic session (45 mins). Introduction to CoralWatch, colours on the reef, coral reef impacts,
coral bleaching, importance of coral reef conservation, how to use the Coral Health Chart and methods and coral types.
2. Practical session (30 mins). Virtual Reef and Transect; CoralWatching in the classroom in preparation for or to replace field component.
3. Field session (1.5-2 hour). Reef Walk / Snorkel or Scuba dive (depending on experience of participants and location of workshop), rapid assessment of coral health and coral types and collect data with Coral Health Chart.
4. Academic session (1.5 hour). Submit data to online database, getting the most from your data using excell spreadsheets, Coral Health Chart development, education, learning outcomes and applications and discussion.

SAIPAN - August 18, 2011 - Divers, educators learn about coral bleaching, climate change
Nearly 70 volunteers from the local dive, snorkel, and education communities learned how to identify varying stages of coral bleaching at a recent workshop aimed at raising awareness about coral reef resiliency and climate change. Read more online (download PDF)

Kish Free Zone Organization which is located in southwest of Iran, held a CoralWatch workshop. Over 30 people from different organization such as; Environmental Organization, Fisheries Organization, Fisheries Research Organization, Maritime universities and many from dive centers participated to this workshop.
